Thanks to our brilliant friends and supporters, the Corbett Society has helped bring real local decision-making one step closer for the Hither Green and Catford South community.
Read our newsletter
In fact we’ve accumulated so much good news since our launch in October 2013 that we decided to put it all in a newsletter, our very first. It will be coming through our members’ letterboxes in the next day or so, but you can download it here right now: Corbett News Edition 1 February 2015 Final Small PDF.
A heads up on our progress so far
In 2014, with the backing of residents and businesses, we applied to Lewisham Council for a Neighbourhood Forum for Hither Green and Catford South’s Corbett Estate.
If approved, the forum will mean the residents of Hither Green and Catford South can shape local authority policy on a range of vital neighbourhood issues with a legally binding Neighbourhood Plan.
The conservation of shopping parades
Improved transport and parking
New leisure facilities
Funding for local heritage and history projects
Support for the local community in general
Lewisham Council will make a final decision on our Neighbourhood Forum on the 9th March 2015. To support the Corbett Estate Neighbourhood Forum, please contact Lewisham Council now:

Without the support of the local community, we would not have been able to achieve all that we have done in the last 15 months to preserve the legacy Archibald Cameron Corbett has left us and to develop the estate to make it a better place for all in the future.
We have been selected as one of a 120 Our Place projects in the UK supported by the Department for Communities and Local Government to create a Healthy Living project in partnership with Lewisham Public Health, Community Teachsport and Delicious most Nutritious to promote Healthy Lifestyles that help prevent illness and disease among local residents.
We launched our first photographic ‘Corbett Portraits competition’ (above).
We conducted research with local businesses at our seven shopping parades with a view to developing a plan to regenerate all parades and promote shopping locally.
We supported Community Teachsport in setting up a Healthy Lifestyles centre with a community cafe at Abbotshall Road due to open in April for use by the whole community.
We raised funding and created a community garden at Abbotshall Road to be run by volunteers and produce fruit and vegetables for the community cafe.
We created a heritage project to include producing a film about the life of Archibald Corbett.
We launched an interactive map, CommonPlace ‘Love Corbett’ so you can share your thoughts about what’s great and what needs to be improved on the Estate.
Please do get involved and share your ideas with us.
