As part of this year’s Corbfest, St Andrew’s Church Hall hosted two screenings of Another Catford on Saturday 12th July. Around 150 people saw the documentary, which traces Catford’s history and asks pertinent questions about its future.
Presenter Jon Wright and Director Ben Honeybone took part in a Q&A after the screenings, compered by Richard Elliott from St Andrews. Many thanks to Tom Steadman and Matt Gray from Catford Film for organising the technical side of the event.

Audience feedback was great. Here’s what people said:
3.30pm Matinee screening
(All reviews 5 stars unless indicated otherwise)
- Wonderful documentation and contextualising of the present day, alongside a cautionary tale not to be seduced by the Emperor’s New Clothes of new buildings and avoid the risk of throwing the baby (existing buildings) out with the regeneration bathwater
- Very informative, could be longer! More social history?
- Brilliant film. It was great to see the evolution of Catford. I was born in 1961 and the memories were endless

- Lived in Catford for over 36 years so very interested in all the history – amazed at the entertainment venues. Just hope they bring back a cinema at least! Thank you. Love to see it on YouTube

- An excellent historical record made with love and full of important advice for the future
- A brilliant and informative film. I hope that new Catford developments are in keeping with the past and the ‘green’ issues inform changes. I will make my views known at every opportunity
- Only in Catford 3 years but learned so much from this! Thank you
- Lovely history of Catford. Much I never knew of. Used to travel to Peter Pan Pond and rowed around as a child. May it remain ‘Catford’, and not Glam City Lewisham

- Enjoyed history and explanation of how Catford developed. Not at all convinced about need to retain brutalist buildings – but equally not convinced about plans to redevelop the centre [4 stars]
- So detailed and informative
- Excellent historically, architecturally and socially. As regards the Council, try to target individual councillors and MP – much more difficult for them to ignore individually than corporately
- Fascinating history and interesting comment on future development/destruction of the area
- Thank you for helping me ground myself in my location (resident only 2 years) and appreciate Brutalism. Great film. Only sorry I didn’t bring other people!
